Newly appointed Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Bogura, Md Taufiqur Rahman, has pledged strong commitment to establishing an airport in the district, calling it a necessity rather than a luxury after personally inspecting the site.

Presiding at a views-exchange meeting with journalists on Thursday afternoon at his office, Taufiqur Rahman openly acknowledged a demand Bogura residents have voiced for years.

"Bogura needs an airport, and if implemented, it could reshape communication, business, tourism, investment, emergency services and connectivity with the capital and beyond," he said.

Bogura DC recently conducted a personal visit to the airport site, examining its current state through ground inspection rather than relying on reports or files. His findings revealed significant infrastructure challenges that complicate the project.

Airport infrastructure is currently divided into two separate structures: a radar station and the airport facility itself, located approximately eight kilometres apart. This considerable distance is not merely a logistical inconvenience but influences critical aspects including flight operations, safety protocols, navigation systems and long-term viability of the facility.

Despite these complications, Taufiqur Rahman maintained firm resolve on the matter. "I also believe an airport is necessary, and I will remain sincere on this matter," he assured attendees, adding that people will witness progress in the coming period.

Bogura DC emphasized that establishing the airport has weighed on his mind constantly amid numerous other responsibilities. He described his workload using a revealing metaphor: "It is as if I have seven minds occupied at once," reflecting the enormous expectations and complex challenges requiring attention simultaneously.

Taufiqur Rahman explained that his office will do everything possible within administrative capacity to accelerate implementation. However, he acknowledged that such large-scale infrastructure projects require extensive planning, funding coordination and inter-departmental cooperation.

His tone throughout the discussion suggested responsibility rather than formality. By physically visiting the site and examining conditions firsthand, Rahman demonstrated an approach connecting policy intentions with ground realities, a practice often missing in administrative circles.

DC concluded his remarks on the airport with conviction, using religious expression to indicate both hope and intention. "Insha'Allah, people will see progress," he stated, signaling genuine commitment beyond mere official rhetoric.

Meeting was attended by Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Md Mezbhaul Karim, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Revenue) PM Imrul Kayes, Bogura Press Club President Rezaul Hasan Ranu, Bogura Journalists' Union President Ganesh Das and journalists from various print and electronic media outlets.
